Origin Healthcare Services update
Q1 in 2022 has seen activity increase, which included supplying filled tubes to the other side of the world for a client in New Zealand from our aseptic filling facility. This also involved our specialists developing a bespoke label to suit the client’s unique requirements.
Meanwhile, the Healthcare Services division has also been busy supporting both public and private sector clients in meeting the needs of large-scale Covid testing. This was provided in the workplace as well as for people who were travelling and in healthcare throughout 2021 and into recent months.
We are now working with clients as they transition into post-Covid sectors, with one project seeing the launch of a consumer self-test that harnesses the power of technology, delivering results within 15 minutes as opposed to what was previously only available from a lab. Origin’s Healthcare Services team continues to work in close partnership with these sectors to provide a complete kitting service to bring this to market at scale.
Origin cleanroom upgrades
Having produced 126 million units in just four years, our current ISBM machine is being replaced with a new, state-of-the-art IBM machine that will facilitate greater demand. The £250,000 investment will support extra cavity tooling, instantly boosting our innovative 250ml child-resistant jar output. The existing ISBM machine will continue to operate alongside a newly purchased identical machine, allowing the production of our 10ml PET bottles to also double.
Meanwhile, our NPD specialists are planning to develop a larger variant to the 10ml bottle pack by introducing 60ml and 100ml bottles with matching child-resistant cap and flip-dropper insert. This will see our child-resistant packaging solutions extend even further, helping to make the world a safer place for everyone.
Child-resistant jar goes from strength to strength
We’re supporting the medical cannabis industry by manufacturing and supplying the safest and most compliant CR jar. Manufactured in our UK-based cleanroom facility and supplied globally, our child-resistant jar is available for between 1 gram and up to 10 grams of product.

Plastic Packaging Tax support
From 1st April 2022, the Plastic Packaging Tax took effect in the UK. This applies a £200 per tonne tax on all liable plastic packaging components manufactured in or imported into the country. However, plastic packaging components which are an integral part of the goods are not subject to this new tax and you do not need to account for them on your tax return. This article explains the Plastic Packaging Tax in further detail and how it may apply to your business.
