There are many reasons why products we use today require the process of reconstitution. Health products and pharmaceutical preparations are often stored in a dry powdered or granulated form to preserve their efficacious properties until the preparation is required for use. Products presented in this way require the process of mixing the preparation with a solution, called a diluent, before they can be administered. This process is known as reconstitution.
Reconstituted products, in particular medicinal, health and drug products present a particular challenge to the supply chain as their reconstitution relies on a safe, measured, contamination-free source of solution being available. For oral dosage medicines or health products this is usually purified water. In addition to ensuring the solution is pure and fit for purpose it is also essential that the volume of solution is accurately measured.
These requirements present a practical challenge to the end user of the preparation. Many reconstituted products require the user to mix the preparation because the efficacy of the preparation would become ineffectual before the user could return to the dispensary for a fresh supply. As an example, users who require a reconstituted medicine product whilst travelling for any period of time (above 7-10 days) will require a supply of dry product to be reconstituted when the previous prescription has been consumed.

The reconstituting of preparations in these situations becomes very inconvenient and largely uncontrolled. In some parts of the world there is simply no reliable source of clean solution available. If the solution were available there is rarely a practicable way of measuring the volume to the degree of accuracy the manufacturer would expect.
The Recon Cap from Origin provides a simple solution to these challenges, allowing the dry preparation to be contained safely and securely in the same package as the measured solution. A simple tear band (tamper evident) device is removed allowing the top of the cap to be pressed and the dry contents fall into the solution below. The product remains sealed allowing agitation of the solution and powder to ensure effective reconstitution in line with the manufacturers guidelines. The closure is then simply unscrewed to access the product and can be re-closed between administrations as required.
The Recon cap is available with a desiccant capsule to prolong the shelf life of the dry formulation. In addition to medicine products, this patented cap is also suited to health, wellbeing, VMS and effervescent products that require reconstitution at time of use.
