Quality Control

Quality control of primary pharmaceutical packaging materials for companies is vital to assure safety standards for the patient using the medical product. We have a dedicated department to test and ensure our packaging meets Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) for deliverables, pharmaceutical international standard ISO 15378, and environmental commitments standard ISO 14001.

Origin are always at the cutting edge of quality regulations, which is why we urge pharmaceutical companies to familiarise themselves with the upcoming Falsified Medicines Directive, which will come into EU law in February 2019. Is your organisation ready?

As a result of the unique requirements within the pharmaceutical industry, it is important to select the most aligned manufacturing cells, which have sound foundations in quality and a similar culture dedicated to maximising value and quality. Origin Packaging takes quality one step further, by having objectives linked to ensuring positive impact on the income of our customers. We have a dedicated quality team to maintain excellence every step of the way, ensuring products and processes are maintained at the highest level

Certification:

Our quality control department has been involved in the healthcare profession since 1963. With a history of dedication to patient safety, the quality of our products and services is of utmost importance to us. This commitment to pharmaceutical quality standards is demonstrated in the certification awarded over the past few years:

Laboratory:

We are pleased to announce investment in to a new in-house laboratory to assist with product testing. This is proving to be invaluable, with our laboratory technicians conducting tests and/or proving product compatibility, often within a 24-hour time frame.

In the unlikely event of a product issue this also gives us the ability to conduct tests immediately in house, rather than facing lengthy delays with outsourcing to an external laboratory.

Customer Visits/Audits:

The quality department welcomes customers visits/audits, enabling our customers to view our processes and Quality Management System on site. We demand quality from our management, employees and our suppliers in order to consistently meet the standards required so that our customers have full confidence in us.

Customers can enjoy a day at Melton House to view our facility and witness how our standards are in keeping with the certification we are certified to. Continuous Improvement is key to our quality journey and constructive criticism is always valued.

Documentation Requests:

With the ever-increasing requirement for documentation, we are committed to responding to our customer requests as quickly as possible. Currently, 80% of documentation requests are responded to (Monday – Friday) within 24 hours, including:

  • Questionnaires
  • Quality Certificates
  • Supporting QMS Documentation
  • Certificates of Conformance
  • Certificates of Analysis, Product Drawings
  • Product Specification
  • Product Compliance

We appreciate that the documentation is often as important as the goods and are therefore striving to improve our response time even further.

Environmental:

Our care and commitment for patients is extended to the environment, and we strive to reduce our impact on the Earth. The related ISO 14001 standard is very important to us.

Origin Packaging Ltd has invested heavily to reduce energy usage, including the installation of a rainwater harvesting system and solar panels. Ambient lighting in the warehouse automatically adjusts depending on the natural light available. We have minimised our utility usage and drastically reduced our impact on the environment.

Recycling is an opportunity we embrace to help reduce landfill and the use of raw materials. Contracts with approved service providers are established to ensure all waste paper, cardboard, plastic and glass is collected and recycled. In the last year we have recycled over 13 tonnes of paper/cardboard, equating to over 156 trees. (Figures based on one ton of paper use = 12 trees).
