Sustainable Pharmaceutical Packaging and Processes

Our goal is to minimise the impact of the company and those of our customers on the environment…

Origin strongly believes its sustainability work is never ‘done’ – whether in our existing products and processes or future developments.

Striving Towards a Sustainable Future

We are committed to driving innovation in pharmaceutical packaging design and managed supply that reduces environmental impact without compromising product quality or integrity. We will continue to take a holistic approach to sustainable pharmaceutical packaging, firm in our belief that a considered policy – focusing on designing eco-friendly principles into our processes and prioritising long-term sustainability over short-term wins – will reap the greatest rewards for our people, customers and the environment.

Our Sustainability Strategies

Many companies present sustainability initiatives that ultimately get ignored. The teams here at Origin are determined to set and achieve goals that will benefit the environment.

We’ve recently announced our environmental and onshoring policies. This is one step in a wider plan to reduce our emissions, reuse materials as much as possible, and recycle both internally and externally.

Origin has also partnered with Carma, a leading initiative that plants trees and boosts communities.

Read below to find out more about our sustainability efforts for eco-friendly pharmaceutical packaging and processes.

With over 60 years of expertise, Origin caters to the unique demands of the healthcare and lifestyle industries. Our breadth of services spans from design and product development to regulatory compliance, testing, production and managed supply.

This means we face sustainability challenges at each turn, in the research, development, optimisation, design and manufacturing of new products, and along their global supply chain journeys to reach the end user. We will endeavour to maintain our efforts within sustainable practices, both currently and into our future processes.

We are determined to constantly innovate with new solutions in eco-friendly pharmaceutical packaging, making steps towards significantly reducing our environmental impact while maintaining our products’ integrity and quality.

Onshoring and nearshoring considerations are integral to both Origin and its clients.

Our new policy ensures the highest quality and sustainability standards, reflecting our commitment to genuine accountability and customer and environmental care.

With this new policy, Origin, Lifestyle Packaging and DiD are committed to:

☑️ Partnering with local businesses while balancing the need to deliver fast, cost-effective, and high-quality services to clients.

☑️ Continuously reviewing existing operations against every available option, taking any opportunities with a genuinely better offering.

☑️ Boosting in-house facilities and capacity to reduce travel time, transport costs and emissions, improve communication and quality, and decrease the impact of adverse risks on supply continuity.

☑️ Meeting all our customers’ needs with expert consideration.

☑️ Ensuring the whole team is completely aligned on our mission.

In our efforts to reduce our environmental impact, Origin has partnered with Carma to combat the effects of deforestation and restore vital ecosystems.

Carma is a company rooted in the principles of genuine environmental change and human well-being. Their primary mission is to plant trees in the UK and overseas, regenerate forests around the world and support veterans with meaningful employment.

Trees are one of the best assets in combating climate change, absorbing and storing harmful carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and releasing clean, breathable oxygen into the air.

Our Sustainability Approach

As a multi-operational company, we at Origin are posed with the challenge of finding sustainable methods of carrying out our processes. From our research for new products to their shipment to the end user, we are constantly looking for new ways to reduce our carbon footprint while maintaining quality throughout our operations.

We hold ourselves accountable for the environmental impact of activities, including:

Our Materials

We design recyclability into our eco-friendly pharmaceutical packaging and use glass, plastic, cardboard and paper to meet both patient safety and sustainability requirements.

Optimisation

In addition to our focus on material selection, Origin routinely critiques packaging design to ensure shape, weight and secondary packaging are optimised, whilst preserving the critical functionality intended. This way, we ensure our design for sustainable packaging in the pharmaceutical industry is consistently improved upon to reduce impact.

Industry Certification and Compliance

All Origin practices are pursuant to ISO 14001, a recognised industry standard.

Reducing Emissions

In onshoring efforts and managed supply activities, we are critical of every decision we make, from our materials and sustainable pharmaceutical packaging to manufacturing processes, and more.

On-Site Impact

In our facilities, equipment and among our people, we take key steps to limit energy consumption and waste and to educate and encourage our team to make sustainable decisions.

Boost Your Sustainability with Onshoring and Nearshoring

Balancing the desire to partner with homegrown and locally operated businesses with the need to deliver speed, value for money and unrivalled quality is a mission Origin is proud to undertake.

Find out more about these below:

Onshoring

When a business transfers its operations or services from overseas and back to the country it operates in, this is called onshoring (also known as insourcing or domestic outsourcing). This is the opposite of offshoring.

Nearshoring

Nearshoring is akin to onshoring, with similar motivations and benefits. However, rather than bringing operations back to home soil, operations are brought to nearby countries.

What Are the Benefits for Me?

  • Navigate global disruption
  • Quality control and cost-cutting
  • Customer satisfaction
  • Speed-to-market
  • Sustainability
  • Social and economic responsibility
